Some attorneys like to have control of the PowerPoint presentation for openings and closings. There are a host of PowerPoint remote “clickers” that will allow the presenter to click through slides with the push of a button anywhere in the courtroom (some litigators like to walk around during the presentation). Most clickers use blue-tooth to communicate with the computer. A USB transmitter is plugged into the computer and communicates with the remote. Not all clickers are created equally. Look for the remote with the greatest range. Greater than 50 feet is advisable due to the size of some courtrooms and the distance to the computer. Most clickers also include a laser pointer. Some clickers have a button that blanks the screen. Finally, size is important. The clicker must be comfortable in the hand of the presenter. If it is too small and the presenter has fat fingers inadvertent clicks can occur. Make sure to practice with the clicker and understand all the buttons to perfect your presentation.
